What Is LCD TV? Within the next few years, there will be no more standard picture-tube television sets. Everything you see in your homes, business, and elsewhere, will be flat-panel television technology. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) TV is the wave of the future. They actually are an evolution from the old liquid-crystal watch faces that you remember from the '70s and early '80s. You are more familiar with the screen on your laptop, which also is an LCD display. LCDs take up a lot less space and are environmentally friendly, emitting much less radiation to the viewer than picture-tube technology. They also are much lighter, easier to carry, and easier to dispose of. In the near future, they also will have a better image quality than the older technology picture-tube sets. Ease of Design and Handling Just think of the advantages that this new technology brings you, not having big, bulky televisions to deal with. For custom-design applications, the LCD televisions are easy to build-in to an overall room concept. They can fit into a bookcase or be concealed in a custom cabinet, and they make a great kitchen TV. LCD Types and Sizes LCD Televisions are available from 9-inch all the way up to 50 inches and above. They come in both regular and projection models. And with the projection models, the sky is the limit on the size television you can create (see Projection TV). |
