Lighting Control and Home Automation
Incorporated at the design stage, lighting control can be integrated with a home automation system, setting lighting schemes for all the rooms in your home that may be activated in a variety of situations.
As a feature of your home's decor, house-wide lighting control allows you to set the lighting in various ways, then recreate that scheme at the touch of a button (or by way of a timing, light sensing, or motion sensing mechanism).
Beyond aesthetics, lighting control may be the most important component of your home automation system in very practical ways.
- Security
This means being able to remotely control your lighting schemes, with lights going on and off randomly in different rooms, so it looks as though you're home, even when you're not. The same controls can be used to make television sets or radios come on when you're not home. The chance that a thief will break into your house are almost zero if he or she thinks that someone may be there.
- Coming Home at Night
Lighting control allows you to set your house to greet you when you come home late at night. Not only can porch and entry lights be set to come on at dusk, but interior hall lighting can be set to gently ramp up to your desired level in whatever areas are appropriate.
- Lighting Your Way
With lighting control, your home can respond to your movements at night by providing adequate light wherever you go. No more bumping your shins on the coffee table while you search for the light switch. This feature is especially useful when you need to get up in the middle of the night.
- Special Events
We've already talked about fading the lights in and out when watching movies in your home theater. You also can set lighting schemes for parties, meetings, or any other occasion that requires a special lighting situation.
